Questions

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most before they commit. If yours is not here, ask us.

Getting started

Which vans do you convert?

We convert Volkswagen Transporters: the T6, T6.1 and the new-shape T7, in short and long wheelbase.

You can bring your own van or we can help you find one. If you are not sure which model, length or door layout suits you, ask us before you buy. It is much easier to choose the right van than to work around the wrong one.

I don't have a van yet. Can you help me find one?

Yes. A £500 deposit reserves your build slot and gives you our van sourcing support. We guide you through buying the right van, and one of our mechanics can check it over before you commit.

The £500 is not an extra cost. It comes off your final payment.

I already own a van. What condition does it need to be in?

It needs to be clean, structurally sound, rust-free and watertight, with your belongings removed. Please bring the locking wheel nut key and any radio, alarm or paint codes.

If the van already has ply lining, flooring or panelling fitted, removing and disposing of it may add up to £120.

What is the difference between the Expedition and the Brighton?

Expedition is our original layout: a full-length kitchen down one side, suited to vans with a single sliding door and to carrying bikes and kit inside.

Brighton is designed around twin sliding doors: a compact kitchen pod leaves the floor open from side to side, with easy access from both doors.

Both start from the same core conversion and the same price.

Can I see a finished van before I decide?

Yes, and we would encourage it. You can sit in a finished camper, handle the materials and ask anything.

Visits to our Warwick workshop are by appointment, so we can give you proper time and keep the workshop safe. Book a visit, or see recent builds first.

Can I try one before I buy?

You can hire one of our campers through our hire partner. See the hire van.

Price and payment

How much does a conversion cost?

The core conversion is £26,872 including VAT. That is a complete, usable camper, not a starting shell.

Every upgrade is priced in our online configurator, so you can see your total change as you choose. A few exterior items, such as wheels and bodywork, are quoted individually.

How do I get a quote?

Build your camper in the configurator. It takes about ten minutes and shows your price as you go. On the last step, send the build to us on WhatsApp or by email. We reply with a personalised quote and talk through anything you were unsure about.

You do not have to finish every choice first. Send what you have and we will help with the rest.

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes. Every price on this site and in the configurator includes VAT at 20%.

When do I pay?

Payment is spread across the build, so you are never paying for everything up front:

  • £500 deposit to reserve your build slot and start van sourcing
  • 50% when you confirm your options, about 10 weeks before drop-off
  • 25% when you drop your van off
  • The final 25%, less your £500 deposit, before you collect

We prefer bank transfer. Card payments may carry a processing fee.

Is the deposit refundable?

The £500 booking deposit is non-refundable, because it reserves workshop time and starts work on your behalf. It is included in your final cost.

The full cancellation terms are in our terms and conditions.

How long is my quote valid?

Quotes are valid for 14 days unless we tell you otherwise in writing. Supplier prices do move, so a quote may need refreshing after that.

Design and build

How long does the build take?

About five weeks from the day you drop your van off to the day you collect it.

Completion dates are given in good faith. Occasionally a supplier delay or a late change can move them, and we will tell you straight away if that happens.

How far ahead do I need to book?

Our next available build slots are in January 2027. A £500 deposit holds your slot.

Can I change my mind about options or colours?

Yes. You can change your specification freely until 10 weeks before your drop-off date. That is the point where we order materials for your build.

Changes after that may still be possible, but they can add cost and time.

How do I choose colours and finishes?

Start with the configurator. Its "See your van" view shows your furniture, lining, floor, upholstery and blind colours on photos of a real van.

Then see physical samples at the workshop before you sign off. Screens never show colour perfectly, and nothing is fixed until you confirm your options.

Will I be kept updated during the build?

Yes. We send progress photos by WhatsApp as your van comes together, and you can message us on the same number at any point.

What if I need a single passenger seat?

Tell us at the van sourcing stage. Many Transporters come with a double passenger seat, and our quotes do not include swapping it for a single, so it is best to source a van that already has the seat you want.

What are the Tourer and Overland modules?

Every Expedition has a low rear cabinet with rails built into the top. Those rails are lashing points for kit, a mount for bikes, and the fixing for our add-on furniture modules.

The Tourer module is a taller, full-height storage unit at the rear. It gives the most storage and a more traditional camper look.

The Overland module adds a storage cube on the rails, for extra space while keeping the back of the van open.

Is the rear seat safe for passengers and child seats?

Yes. We fit Mobiframe seat-beds, which are fully M1 and N1 crash tested, with three-point seat belts and ISOFIX points. The same seat slides on floor rails and folds flat into a bed.

Is my van insured while it is with you?

Vehicles in our care are covered by our motor trade insurance while on our premises during working hours. You need to keep your own vehicle insurance in place throughout the build.

Living with your camper

Why are your campers gas-free?

We cook on induction and run everything from a lithium leisure battery charged by solar. With no gas on board there are no bottles to carry, refill or have checked, and one less thing to think about on the road.

What powers everything?

A Clayton power unit: 2kW as standard, with a 3kW upgrade. It can be charged by solar, and there is a 230V hook-up point for campsites.

How is the camper heated?

Heating is an optional upgrade. We fit Webasto diesel heaters: a 2kW air heater, which is our most popular choice, or a liquid heater that also gives you hot water.

Both are priced in the configurator.

Where do I find instructions once I own one?

In our owner's handbook. It covers the pop-top, seats and bed, water, heating, power and seasonal care, and it is written to be used on your phone when you are away in the van.

What happens at handover?

We arrange a collection day that suits you and walk you through every system step by step, until you are confident using all of it. After that we are a call or a message away.

Warranty and aftercare

What warranty do I get?

Our core conversion workmanship is covered for 24 months from collection. That includes the fridge, hob, sink, electrical and water systems, the elevating bed and struts, the swivel seat mechanism and the furniture.

Some parts are covered for longer. That is what 2-3-5 means:

  • 2 years: the core build and its components
  • 3 years: any heater system. We can offer this because we are a Webasto qualified and approved installation centre
  • 5 years: the pop-top, the rail bed system and the Clayton power unit

Labour for a replacement under a manufacturer warranty may be chargeable. The full detail is in our terms and conditions.

Is the van itself under warranty?

That is separate from our conversion warranty. New T7 Transporters come with Volkswagen's own five-year vehicle warranty, which passes to later owners. Volkswagen sets the terms, so check them for your van.

What is not covered?

General wear and tear, accidental damage or misuse, lack of maintenance, and repairs or alterations made by someone else.

What do I do if something goes wrong?

Email hello@maverickoutdoors.co.uk with a description and photos if you can. We may ask you to bring the van back to the workshop so we can inspect and fix it properly.

Stock vans

Do you sell finished campers?

Yes. We list finished campers and demonstrators on AutoTrader. See what is in stock.

A £2,000 deposit reserves a stock vehicle.
