Carry these out regularly, depending on how often you use your camper. Tap a number on the van to see what to check.

  1. 1Roof and pop-top

Check for any damage or obstructions. Make sure it is securely strapped down before setting off, with no canvas visible.

  2. 2Roof rack

Check the fittings are tight and secure.

  3. 3Windscreen and windows

Check for cracks and keep them clean. Check all the seals to make sure they are watertight.

  4. 4Lights

Check all the lights are working.

  5. 5Washing

Drive-through car washes can damage the wrap, roof and seals. Jet washes are fine if used carefully. Do not spray directly at joins.

  6. 6Bodywork

Check all fittings are secure and the body is free from scratches, dents or rust, particularly where moisture collects.

  7. 7Doors and locks

Make sure doors open, close and lock correctly. Lubricate locks, hinges and the sliding door mechanism to prevent stiffness.

  8. 8Tyres

Check tyre pressure and condition, that the wheel nuts are tight, and the tread depth. Look for cracks, bulges or uneven wear, which can point to a suspension or alignment problem.

  9. 9Underbody

Look for any visible damage, rust or leaks.

Why it matters

The brushes in an automatic car wash can catch the edges of a wrap and the pop-top seals, and high-pressure water aimed into a join can lift a wrap edge or force water past a seal.

Using your awning4 things to know

Proper use and regular care will keep your awning in excellent condition.

Do not use the awning as a permanent shelter. It is designed as a sun shade. Even moderate gusts can cause significant damage, and damage caused by weather is not typically covered by warranty.

Peg it down

Use pegs to secure the legs.

Watch the wind

Do not leave the awning unattended in windy conditions.

Bring it in

Retract the awning if strong winds, heavy rain or storms are expected.

No pooling

Never let water pool on the fabric. The weight can damage the fabric and the legs. If needed, lower one leg slightly so water runs off.

Awning care4 things to know

Clean

Clean the fabric with warm water and a mild soap solution.

Dry

Let the fabric dry fully before retracting, to prevent mould and mildew.

Clear

Remove leaves, dirt and debris regularly.

Lubricate

Lubricate moving joints once a year with a silicone-based lubricant.

Remember: your awning is built for temporary use in suitable conditions. When in doubt, take it down.

Awning rail care5 things to know

Your multi rail takes side awnings, sun shades and drive-away tents with a 6 or 8mm bead.

Fixings

Periodically inspect all mounting bolts and fixings.

Movement

Check for signs of movement, loosening or corrosion.

Channel

Remove any dirt or debris that collects in the channel.

Sealant

Make sure the sealant is intact and watertight.

Drive-away awnings

If you use a drive-away awning, inspect the rail before every trip.
